Ways to Avoid Scams

Home Federal Bank will never ‘call you’ and ask for account information. We have procedures in place to verify your identity when ‘you call us’. This is for your protection.

A financial institution will never ask you to verify your account number, PIN number, one time passcode, password, or online banking credentials in an unsolicited phone call or text.

Tips to protect yourself from scams:

  • Beware of suspicious calls, texts or emails requesting personal or sensitive account information.
  • Keep all passwords, PINs, and one-time passcodes secret.
  • Home Federal Bank does NOT call and ask customers to verify their account number, PIN number, one time passcode, password, or online banking credentials in an unsolicited phone call or text.

We have recently been made aware of “spoofing” reports in and around our communities. Spoofing occurs when a caller disguises their identity. Recent examples include calls and text messages that appear to come from financial institutions asking for account numbers, access codes, and personal information.

There is nothing to stop fraudsters changing the caller ID to mirror that of your bank. Similarly, texts from fraudsters using a spoofed number, will show up as being from the bank – often appearing alongside legitimate texts sent out by the bank.

If you receive a voice or automated call – either at home or on your mobile – that claims to be from your bank, hang up. Texts should be treated as equally suspicious. If you have any questions or concerns please call your bank directly.
